Why Do We Ask, “What Is Love?”

Whenever we ask, “What is love?” it’s usually because a) we’re unsure if a certain special someone really loves us, or b) because a certain special someone just accused us of not really loving them.
When we are truly engaged in giving and receiving love, we don’t ponder such philosophical questions. It’s only when something is lacking that we begin to analyze and contemplate what that thing actually is.
So then, what exactly is love?

True Love Is...

  • True Love is Caring. The ancient Greeks had many different names for different forms of love: passion, virtuous, affection for the family, desire, and general affection. But no matter how love is defined, they all hold a common trait: caring.

  • True Love is Attractive. Attraction and chemistry form the bond that allows people to mate. Without this romantic desire for another individual, a relationship is nothing more than lust or infatuation.

  • True Love is Attached. Like the mother-child bond, attachment comes after the initial attraction. Attachment is the long term love that appears anywhere from one to three years into a romantic relationship (sometimes sooner and very rarely after), and you'll know you've found it when you can honestly say, "I've seen the worst and the best you have to offer, and I still love you," while your partner feels the same way.

  • True Love is Committed. When it comes to true love, commitment is more than just monogamy. Its the knowledge that your partner cares for you and has your back, no matter what the circumstances. People who are strongly committed to one another will, when faced with seemingly negative information about their partner, see only the positive. For example, a friend comments that your partner doesn't say a lot. "Ah yes, he's the strong, silent type," you reply. People with less commitment to their partner would instead say something like, "Yeah, I can never have conversation with him. Its annoying."

  • True Love is Intimate. Intimacy is a crucial component of all relationships, regardless of their nature. In order to know another, you need to share parts of yourself. This self-revealing behavior, when reciprocated, forms an emotional bond. Over time this bond strengthens and even evolves, so that two people merge closer and closer together. Intimacy by itself if is a great friendship, but compiled with the other things in this list, it forms an equation for true love.

 It Definitely Isn't...

  • Manipulation. "If you loved me, then you would..." isn't love, but rather infatuation.

  • Compromising who you are. If someone asks you to do or say something that isn't in your nature, that isn't true love. Although love does involve compromises between partners, someone who is in love with you will never ask you to change who you are in order to be loved.

  • Violent. Passions can definitely become inflamed with someone you love, but a relationship with physical or emotional violence isn't true love.

  • Just lust. Yes, chemistry and physical attraction are important, but true love also includes commitment, trust and respect.
  • Love Quotes

“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”

“Every man is afraid of something. That’s how you know he’s in love with you; when he is afraid of losing you.”

“Love is like an earthquake-unpredictable, a little scary, but when the hard part is over you realize how lucky you truly are.”

“The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned.”
    William Somerset Maugham

“For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.”
    Judy Garland

“One of the hardest things in life is watching the person you love, love someone else.”

“If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don’t, they never were.”

“Trying to make someone fall in love with you is about as pointless as trying to control who you fall in love with.”

“It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone and a day to love someone – but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.”

“Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.”

“To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.”

“I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.”

“You don’t love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.”

“It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return, but what is the most painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let the person know how you feel.”

    What Actually Love Is

Why do we close our eyes when we sleep? When we cry?
When we imagine? When we kiss?
This is because the most beautiful things in the world are unseen.

We are all a little weird and life's a little weird
and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours,
we join up with them and fall in
mutual weirdness and call it love.

There are things that we never want to let go of,
people we never want to leave behind,
but keep in mind that letting go isn't the end of the world,
it's the beginning of a new life.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt,
those who have searched and those who have tried.
For only they can appreciate the importance of the people
    who have touched their lives.

A great love? It's when you shed tears and still you care for him,
it's when he ignores you and still you long for him.
It's when he begins to love another and yet you still smile
and say I'm happy for you.

If love fails, set yourself free,
let your heart spread its wings and fly again.
Remember you may find love and lose it, but when love dies,
you never have to die with it.

The strongest people are not those who always win
but those who stand back up when they fall.

Somehow along the course of life,
you learn about yourself and realize
    there should never be regrets,
only a lifelong appreciation of the choices you've made.

A true friend understands when you say, I forgot,
waits forever when you say, just a minute,
stays when you say leave me alone,
opens the door even before you knock and says can I come in?

Loving is not how you forget but how you forgive,
not how you listen but how you understand,
not what you see but how you feel,
and not how you let go but how you hold on.
It's more dangerous to weep inwardly rather than outwardly.
Outward tears can be wiped away while secret tears scar forever.

In love, very rarely do we win
but when love is true, even if you lose,
you still win just for having the tingle of loving someone
    more than you love yourself.

There comes a time when we have to stop loving someone
not because that person has stopped loving us
but because we have found out
that they'd be happier if we let go.

It's best to wait for the one you want than settle for one that's available.
Best to wait for the one you love than one who is around.
Best to wait for the right one
because life is too short to waste on just someone.

Sometimes the one you love turns out to be the one who hurts you the most,
and sometimes the friend who takes you into his arms
    and cries when you cry
turns out to be the love you never knew you wanted.

If you really love someone never let go,
don't believe that letting go means that you love best,
    instead fight for your love,
    that's what true love is.

Laugh to your heart's content; you cannot go through life without it.

The Freedom You Have in Your Heart

The Freedom You Have in Your Heart

Find a person who LOVES you for exactly for who you are.

Find a person who LOVES you for exactly for who you are.

Find a person who LOVES you for exactly for who you are, good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty. The RIGHT person is going to think the sun rises and sets on you.

Have you already found your soulmates?

Have you already found your soulmates?

Soul mates are those one in a million people who have the perfect chemistry. They know what makes their partner cry and they know what makes their partner smile. They bring joy to each others life because they see the best in each other. They are each others voice and strength. They have immense faith in their relationship and they stand firmly together in the toughest of times.

    Try to Make It Happen

    Try to Make It Happen

It's worth a ton of possible pain. You might see the 'end' coming, but at least you try to make it happen.Realize that most of your fears are much bigger in your mind than they are in reality; you’ll see this for yourself as soon as you face them. Don’t let them stop you. Live your life so that you never have to regret the chances you never took, the love you never let in, and the gifts you never gave out.

“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”

    I Still Love

I laugh, but I'm hurt. I'm hurt, but I smile. I smile, but I cry. I cry, but I won't give up. I won't give up, but I don't expect. I don't expect, but I still love. Sometimes, we have to be broken down to be rebuilt into the person we were meant to be.

** Nurture yourself. Self care is very important. Set up some time to be by yourself, just by yourself. Do something that gives you peace, love, and joy with yourself. You can nurture yourself physically by exercising and consuming healthy food. You can nurture yourself emotionally by listening to love songs, painting, or helping others in need. As you give yourself to others and offer help, you receive the gift of love back. You feel good about yourself because you live your life on purpose. You can nurture yourself mentally by reading your favorite books. You can nurture your spiritually by doing meditation.

Happiness is not something you have in your hands; it is something you carry in you heart.

Happiness is not something you have.

Happiness is not something to choose, but something to appreciate. If you are satisfied of what you have, surely you have happiness within your heart inside out.

Remind yourself that you are worth loving. Many people tend to get insecure about themselves, when in all reality we are all human beings! Always believe in yourself and be the confident optimistic you.

Every time you realize a negative emotion, pause and feel it; then thank yourself for feeling it, accepting it. Emotions are nothing more than internal experiences which contribute to who we are. Accepting problems (negative things) as opportunities (good things) in another perspective can yield great results (problem solving).

If you’re afraid to love a person because of friendship, you have two choices. Either say what you feel and let love take its place or forever hide the love under a friendship full of pretensions.

    Being friends with someone...

If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation of falling for a close friend, my advice is to always just tell them. Yes, you’re risking a lot but you owe it to yourself to take those risks. In order for anything good to happen in your life, you have to be the one to propel it forward. You have to take care of yourself and not worry so much about what other people will say or think. You know what happens to people who never took chances or were always frozen in fear?

Goodnight, little star, maybe tonight my wish will come true.

Goodnight, little star, maybe tonight my wish will come true.

Goodnight, little star, maybe tonight my wish will come true. Sleep tight, little star, I’ll be dreaming along with you. And if tomorrow I wake up and he’s still my friend, I’ll see you tomorrow, little star, to try my wish again.

I was looking out the windows Thinking about the person I care most & Guess who came into my mind...you. So, just want to wish you Goodnight :)

A friend. Just one damn friend.

A friend. Just one damn friend.

Nothing in life lasts forever. Every experience and relationship eventually runs its course.
The best way to embrace impermanence is to translate it into action. Treat each day as a life unto itself. Appreciate the people in front of you as if it were their last day on earth. Find little things to gain in every moment instead of dwelling on what you lost.

When I feel like clinging to experiences and people, I remind myself the unknown can be a curse or an adventure. It’s up to me whether or not I’m strong and positive enough to see it as the latter.

Pay attention to the ones who care before trying to get the attention of the ones who don't.

Pay attention to the ones who care about you.

Have an open, loving attitude. If you want to be loved, love everyone. Be nice, gentle and friendly toward everyone. No one can find fault with the kindest person. Speak in a gracious way. Be respectful to all.Always respect the thoughts of others. Even if their thoughts do not quite add up, respectfully nod and smile. Nobody likes someone who argues their will into your head.

It’s hard to tell your mind to stop loving someone when your heart still does.

It’s hard to tell your mind to stop loving someone when your heart still does.

Why? Because it is their happiness to let you feel their love. And when their love is pure, they will not ask to be loved in return. They just want to show you how they feel and for them, that will be enough.
